This was written when Arnav was subjected to Khushi's silent treatment. So, I developed the story from there and sent Khushi to her parent's place.
Now Arnav's eyes itched to see Khushi. Almost14 hours had passed by
without seeing her. He walked in and around the room anticipating
Khushi's appearance magically from some hidden corner of the room but
soon the optimism vanished when Anjali entered the room and inquired:
"Chotey what are you looking for"?
"Nothing di, just waiting for Khushi. Where is she"? Asked Arnav in the hope that she might be downstairs.
"Oh! Didn't she inform you that she will be going to see her babuji"?
Came the heart crashing answer having a mix of doubt that how come
Khushi did not tell Chotey about this!
Fully aware of his
sister's meaningless botheration Arnav immediately took hold of the
situation and said: "yeah, now i remember. She did tell me the other day.
I just forgot di".
Anjali satisfied by the response and bidding him goodnight made her way to her room, leaving behind sighing Arnav.
Saying goodnight to his di, Arnav retreated back into the grim solitude
of his room and took out a book, flipped of few pages but couldn't
concentrate.
"What the"! sighed he in exasperation.
"To see babuji"! exclaimed Arnav, who thought it was quite unnecessary on part of Khushi to leave Raizada house all of a sudden and that too
without feeling the need to inform him. She sure will have to pay for
her audacity now.
After a while, when her thoughts did not seem
to leave him, he took refuge in the eternal bliss of his laptop but
today was his one unlucky day when his pet too refused to entertain him.
Restlessness engulfed him, he had no clue what was irking him so badly;
Why he was not at peace, may be her absence. Yes! that was it, now that
he is so used to her being all around himself, his house, his room, his
life, his everything that her absence was working like glass splinters
across his heart. When she is not there, it was impossible for him to
deal with the void, with the silence in his room.
But then he
tried to blow away the bullshit his mind was feeding upon. The feeling
is not new to him. Thought him. Loneliness and Arnav Singh Raizada are
like synonyms so as to speak. He does not depend on some Khushi to be at
peace. He prefers this silence, this golden privacy which he got all of
a sudden without even him asking for it.
He should be thankful to her.
But then why this twitch in the heart and this unexplained uneasiness as if something is quite out of place!
Sitting on his recliner and closing his eyes, he mused about Khushi.
Oh! so now she has invaded his mind too! thought he, as he effortlessly
remembered her innocent blabbers that kept her otherwise silent room so
alive. His thoughts wandered around the day when they did a close,
intimate dance few days back. How well she fits against him. His fingers
twitched involuntarily as he dreamed about Khushi holding her by her waist. Her so angel like face and doe eyes made his heart go beyond control.
Tired of imagining about her he got up from his recliner and moved
towards the bed like a robot. Making himself comfortable on Khushi's
side of bed, he sniffed her pillow.
Ah! the smell of lavender.
Wanting to just immerse himself in the fragrance he lay on the bed as
for now that fragrance was the sole medium that reminded him of her. It
was something that was so innate to Khushi.
Unknowingly, he blurted out: Dearest how could you?
Do you know what I'm going through! Next time you contemplate such a
thing, take me with you because it is abundantly clear that I cannot
live without you. Not in this world, not in the next.
Just the
feeling, that you are not near makes all priorities clear. Oh! what the
hell I'm going through. To be forced to put on a mask and pretend normalcy, when my deepest instincts were to scream loudly how I love
you and how want to spend the rest of my life with you.
Quite
unable to resist his raw emotions, he got up swiftly, fumbled for his
car keys and drove to a place which was not new to him.
It was
10 in the night and Khushi after talking to his Babuji, Buaji and Amma
and giving them plenty of explanations as to why she appeared suddenly
at Gupta house prepared to retire to bed.
But sleep was the
the last thing she had on her mind. Because now a days her heart and her
mind behaved ridiculously bad with her and just refused to listen to
her.She herself was quite surprised that despite all her efforts to brush
aside his thoughts all she did was to think about him. Though she did
not accept it, but actually she was missing his jeering, his mockery and
his so infamous smirk, his touch, his cologne whenever he minimized the
distance between them and brought his face dangerously near her nose
that she wished, their lips touched.
Coming back to her
rational world as if she were in a trance exclaimed : "No, she will not
succumb to his thoughts and will not show him her face". It was more like
a resolution to her.
How she loved him! But were he to understand her love, her feelings, her emotions for him?
His actions though at some instances left her perplexed. Time and again
she has felt how he tries to amend his wrong doings towards her.
But until when? Until when she will have to be his scapegoat?
Eventually, Khushi cast aside his thoughts and took solace in the
comfort of her bed, the same bed once she had shared with her laat
governor on the new year's eve.
He was so different then,
though he never confessed his love for her but his gestures towards her
were always brimming with love and now how changed his demeanor is.
Love hurts and it hurts real bad. Thought Khushi. It hurts when a
person you love enters your so secured heart and messes with it. Why his
doings affect her so much? Because she loves him. Is this some kind of a
self proclamation! She seemed to be amused at her own rambling.Where there is love, there is pain. She said in a very philosophical
tone. Khushi being no Jane Austen or Shakespeare but at the moment she
was no less than a writer as she was experiencing the overwhelming
feeling of being in love.
But will her love ever be reciprocated?? That was a million dollar question!
Being in love with Arnav Singh Raizada has its own hazards and Khushi was beginning to feel the impact of it.
It was then when she was lost in her own world, she heard a knock on the door.
Who could that be at this hour? Certainly, this was not the time for
friends or neighbours to drop by. Visibly annoyed by this interruption,
she heard her Buaji's voice.
"Arnav Babua! You"?? Screamed Buaji in a state of shock and surprise.
Hearing her Buaji's voice, Khushi got up with a jerk and muttered: "UNBELIEVABLE"!
"What is he doing here at this time"?
"Yes Buaji! It's me". Said Aranv
"I just dropped by to see Babuji. How is he now"? And saying this, he
barged in without waiting for Buaji's reaction. He moved towards
Babuji's room all the while his eyes frantically searching for Khushi.
Buaji was no kid. She could read Arnav's mind quite well and understood
the motive behind his sudden appearance on the pretext of seeing Babuji. A mischievous smile played on her lips as she recalled her own days just after marriage.
So, she said, Arnav babua, actually Shahsi bitua is asleep and is doing good.
Arnav felt a bit disappointed by the answer as now his purpose of
staying at Gupta residence was just blown off. He felt utterly hopeless
as he couldn't open his mouth to ask about Khushi. Such was his love!
Love that begun by deceiving himself and then others.
Buaji
understood Arnav's plight and asked: "Why don't you stay here as already
it is so late and that this is your house as well".
Arnav's heart pounded on hearing this, he couldn't hide the pleasure of getting the invitation.
Without waiting for his answer, Buaji directed Arnav to Khushi's room.
Khushi stood in her room facing her back towards Arnav quite firm about
not showing him her face. Arnav o the other hand for the first time had
a major anxiety attack. He was speechless. He did not have the words to
explain his presence in the Gupta's house at such a bizarre hour.
But arrogant he was and again it was his arrogance that spoke.
"Khushi, how dare you! Could you not inform me of your leaving Shanti van"?
"Oh! so you came all the way to question me"? Mocked Khushi. She did not want to leave any opportunity of teasing Arnav.
"And I did not leave your house for good. Just came to see my Babuji. Am
I denied of doing even that? And moreover you should be glad as I saved you from seeing my face"!
Having said that Khushi turned
and faced Arnav, who was standing there quite displeased with the way
things were turning out. He felt helpless as the situation this time was
not in his control.
"Oh! So you care so much for my words. I didn't know that Khushi Kumari Gupta"!
He moved forwrads and asked in a haughty tone: "Where am i supposed to sleep in this room"?
Fully aware of the fact that there is just one bed in that little room
and no other provision for a separate sleeping arrangement, he still had
thrust the question towards Khushi, totally enjoying the situation.
But Khushi was no game to this so uncalled situation and said
immediately, "well Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada, it looks like we'll have to
share the bed and place pillows between us. You take the left side and I
the right side".
Arnav smirked upon his wife's intelligence. He
was satisfied that he was saved from the torture of being alone and
lonely in his grand luxurious room of Raizada house.
He was here within a safe distance with his Khushi.
As he hit the bed, he inhaled again the fragrance of Lavender but this
time there was no turmoil, no restlessness nothing, but a bliss, a sense
of nearness, being near his love.
Ever wonder about the irony
of the situation. It was Khushi who was afraid of being alone or being
lonely but now it is our mighty ASR who dreads being lonely!
